The Mississippi River is sometimes referred to as the Big Muddy and it often lives up to that nickname with its rich, brown earth tone.  But the river's surface water is also like a mirror reflecting its surroundings - at times subtle, at times dramatic, and always beautiful.

Sometimes when I'm down at the Cape Riverfront Park, especially on a sunny morning or evening, the river mirrors the most perfect shade of blue. It seems to be telling its own story - it doesn't want to be defined.  I love living down by this independent and poetic river.

"The Mississippi River will always have its own way." - Mark Twain

".. the river is not crying, the river is just blue.."
